Nevena Ruzic is Head of Compliance at the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection in the Republic of Serbia. She is responsible for advising the Commissioner on freedom of information and personal data protection, and legal analysis on regulation compliance.

Before working with the Commissioner, Nevena was the Freedom of the Media Coordinator at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Serbia and a legal consultant at YUCOM, Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights. Her field of work has predominantly been in the area of information, offline and online – freedom of expression and information, personal data, classified data, internet data and regulation.

Nevena holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Belgrade. She also holds a master’s degree in Contemporary Diplomacy from the University of Malta and a master’s in Law from the University of Leeds.

Her research as an AsiaGlobal Fellow will focus on identifying potential effects of European data protection regulations on Asian, namely Chinese companies and regulators, as well as on the use of technology in personal data processing and implementation of appropriate safeguards.
